BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — The public is left with questions after an Amber Alert rang out to Kern County residents on July 10. While it was deactivated in less than 24 hours, the woman is accused of stabbing a man, stealing his car and taking her child.

“I don’t know if this is gonna be good for my case or bad but… I think I probably won’t speak because this is a very serious case regarding my kids,” said Charnay Mclin.

Everyone knew her and her daughter after an Amber Alert one week ago had been blasted out to Kern County by the California Highway Patrol, saying a child was abducted.

In just a few hours the Amber Alert was deactivated.

Mclin was apprehensive to speak about anything on her case during our interview.

“I have two cases that’s ongoing and they did not want to listen because they thought that I was under the influence, I believe,” said Mclin.

Mclin has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, burglary, spousal abuse and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, she has plead not guilty.

Court documents show McLin confronted the child’s 71-year-old father, who is also Mclin’s ex-husband, after breaking into a home and brandishing a knife she took from the kitchen.

She allegedly tried to stab him in the chest, but he “blocked the attack and was punctured on his left deltoid,” according to the declaration. He suffered a deep cut.

With the father injured, McLin was able to take the child and vehicle keys from the home and drove away, according to the documents, she does not have legal custody rights.

“I was very young, now I’m more wise and aware of certain situations. Especially this hell hole that I’m in is not making it any better and I’m gonna come off really really, not myself,” said Mclin.

Mclin says she has a daughter and a son, but after trying to ask her about them, she ended the interview,

“No. I don’t want to talk anymore about the situation, thank you for coming out, please take me back to my cell,” said Mclin.

17 News tried to reach the father of the children but our calls went unanswered.
