Despite ongoing fuel price volatility impacting transportation-dependent industries, the local franchise of College HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving is continuing to grow, expanding its service territory into Royal Oak, Birmingham, Berkley, Southfield, and Bloomfield Hills to meet increasing demand for moving and junk removal services.
The expansion is expected to create up to 20 new jobs and generate an estimated 1,500 additional service jobs annually, further accelerating the company’s growth across southeast Michigan.
“Fuel costs impact every moving and junk removal company, but people still need these services regardless of what’s happening at the pump,” says Bryan Saad, owner of the local College HUNKS franchise. “Families are moving, businesses are relocating, and homeowners are tackling renovation and cleanout projects. We’ve continued to invest in our team and operations so we can meet that demand while maintaining the level of service our customers expect.”
Saad joined the College HUNKS team in 2020 after more than 35 years as a business owner in the construction industry. Since opening his franchise, he has expanded operations through a focus on customer service, operational efficiency, and employee development.
What began six years ago with just two trucks and three employees has grown into an operation with a fleet of 30 vehicles, more than 100 team members, and two office locations serving Oakland, Genesee, Wayne, and Macomb counties.
“College HUNKS gave me a proven playbook, technology, and support system that allowed me to scale efficiently,” Saad says. “The combination of strong systems and a culture focused on building leaders has helped us continue growing even during challenging economic conditions.”
College HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving — short for Honest, Uniformed, Nice, Knowledgeable, Service — has grown to nearly 200 locally owned franchises nationwide. The company, which has its headquarters in Tampa, also prioritizes social impact: for every job completed, two meals are donated to U.S. Hunger, totaling more than 5 million meals donated to date.
Additionally, items collected during jobs are recycled or donated whenever possible, helping reduce landfill waste while supporting local nonprofits and community organizations.
Saad and his team are active throughout the community, regularly supporting the county’s 4-H Fair, partnering with local charitable organizations, and maintaining memberships with four different chambers of commerce.
