BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man died after being struck by several vehicles on Highway 99 early Sunday morning.
The California Highway Patrol said on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at around 1:48 a.m., officers were called to southbound Highway 99, south of White Lane, for reports of a traffic crash involving multiple vehicles and a pedestrian.
According to CHP, a preliminary investigation found that an unidentified man went into southbound Highway 99 from the shoulder, directly in the path of an unknown vehicle.
The unknown vehicle struck the pedestrian, causing severe injuries. CHP said the pedestrian was subsequently struck by multiple other vehicles, sustaining additional injuries.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple drivers remained on scene and were cooperative with investigators.
CHP said there are potentially other vehicles involved that drove away from the scene and further investigation is still being conducted.
CHP said at this time, it is unknown if alcohol and/or drugs were a factor in this crash.
