A Farmington Hills family doctor has taken over the top leadership role for the state largest association of specialty physicians.
Dr. Brandon Karmo, a family physician with the Henry Ford Medical Group Orchard Primary Care in Farmington Hills, is the 78th president of the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians.
Karmo has been a longtime leader within the academy, having served on its board of directors since 2017 and in a progression of roles including treasurer, secretary and vice president. He will serve a one-year term.
He has represented family medicine at the state and national level, meeting with legislators on policies affecting the profession, and currently serves as secretary of the Family Medicine department at Henry Ford Providence and as a board member of Providence Medical Group.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in biology, with University Honors, from Wayne State University and a medical degree from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his family medicine residency at St. John Providence Hospital, where he later served as chief resident.
Karmo founded Orchard Primary Care in 2020 and is board-certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and the American Osteopathic Board of Family Medicine. He has been named a top doctor by Hour Detroit every year from 2022 through 2026.
In addition to his clinical work, Karmo serves as clerkship director for the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine, overseeing the family medicine clerkship for third- and fourth-year students, and as a clinical assistant professor at the university, where he has been named Faculty of the Year and Outstanding Faculty Mentor of Family Medicine each year since 2022. He also teaches and precepts residents as faculty for the Ascension Providence Family Medicine Residency.
