Sacramento celebrates completion of Franklin Boulevard major revitalization project
Community leaders and business owners gathered Monday morning to celebrate the completion of a major revitalization project along Sacramento’s historic Franklin Boulevard corridor.
The Franklin Boulevard Complete Streets Project transformed approximately 1.5 miles of the boulevard between Sutterville Road and 32nd Avenue.
The improvements include smoother streets, no more potholes, protected bicycle lanes, widened sidewalks, traffic-calming measures, improved pedestrian access, expanded landscaping and additional trees.
The city awarded a construction contract worth approximately $16.5 million for the project.
Supporters said the changes are intended to make Franklin Boulevard safer and more accessible while supporting the businesses, residents and visitors who use the corridor.
The project was more than a decade in the making and followed years of advocacy and collaboration among neighbors, business owners, community organizations, the city of Sacramento, regional agencies and elected officials.
“The completion of the Franklin Boulevard Complete Streets Project represents far more than new infrastructure — it reflects what is possible when a community refuses to give up on a shared vision,” said Mike Bokan, executive director of the Franklin Boulevard Business Association.
The community celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony were from 9 to 10 a.m. near the “Una Noche de Salsa” mural at 4027 Franklin Blvd.
Organizers said the completed project will improve the neighborhood, strengthen the historic commercial district, and help support long-term economic growth along Franklin Boulevard.
