Fresno State has added a bonus to its biggest home football game of the season, announcing on Monday at its media day that former offensive lineman Logan Mankins will be inducted into its Ring of Honor Oct. 10 when the Bulldogs play Boise State.

“It is awesome,” Mankins said, in a press release from the athletics department. “It is such a great honor. There have been so many great players that have played at Fresno State and to be included with them and the coaches that have been there is pretty special.”

Mankins, after a standout career at Fresno State, was selected by the New England Patriots in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft, the 32nd overall pick. He spent 11 years in the NFL and was selected to seven Pro Bowls and twice was a first-team All-Pro. Mankins also was selected to the NFL’s All-Decade team for the 2010s.

“Talk about a one of one player,” coach Matt Entz said. “Everyone says, ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be great to have a Logan Mankins.’ Well, everyone in the country wishes they had Logan Mankins.

“Players like Logan Mankins, they’re not just walking down the street. But at the same time, he was one of those guys that was found and developed and created, and there are some similarities between what we’re doing recruiting-wise and guys like Logan Mankins, which is exciting for us.”

Mankins, who started 40 consecutive games at left tackle for the Bulldogs, will be the 14th former player or coach inducted into the Ring of Honor. Jeff Tedford, who played quarterback for the Bulldogs and coached his alma mater in two stints from 2017 to 2022 and 2022 to 2023 was inducted last season.

The players in the Ring of Honor include quarterbacks Kevin Sweeney, Trent Dilfer, David Carr and Derek Carr, wideouts Henry Ellard and Davante Adams, running backs Dale Messer and Lorenzo Neal, linebacker Ron Cox and kicker Vince Petrucci.

Coaches Jim Sweeney and Pat Hill also have been honored.
