When officers arrived, they determined it was a fatal hit-and-run involving a pedestrian.

A preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian, a 49-year-old man from Fresno, was walking on Golden State Boulevard when he was struck by one or more vehicles.

The vehicle or vehicles involved left the scene before CHP arrived.

Based on evidence collected at the scene, investigators believe one of the involved vehicles may be a white 2018-2023 Toyota Camry.

Later that evening, at about 11 p.m., the Fresno Police Department responded to a vehicle fire at Jensen Avenue and Maple Avenue. Investigators recovered the burned vehicle, a white 2008 Infiniti G37, as potential evidence. CHP investigators are working to determine whether it was involved in the crash.

The investigation remains active. CHP investigators are reviewing available surveillance footage and other leads to identify the vehicles and drivers involved.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information is encouraged to contact the CHP Fresno Area office at (559) 705-2200. Anonymous tips can be directed to Valley Crime Stoppers at (559) 498-STOP (7867).

CHP reminded motorists that California law requires drivers involved in a crash to stop immediately, render aid when possible, and report the incident to law enforcement. Leaving the scene of a crash involving injury or death is a serious criminal offense.
