Kern County Public Works announces bulky waste collection events in Bakersfield, Lamont
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Kern County Public Works is set to host two bulky waste collection events next month, where residents can drop off their residential large trash items for free.
Bulky items like appliances, mattresses and furniture make up a large portion of the waste at illegal dumpsites throughout Kern County. These events are meant to address and prevent illegal dumping, Public Works officials said.

The first event will be held in Bakersfield, according to county officials. It is set for 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 8, at the following locations:
Meadows Field International Terminal: 1229 Skyway Dr.
Kern Medical: 1700 Mt. Vernon Ave., Flower Street parking lot
Kern County Fairgrounds: 1142 S. P St.
The event is being held in partnership with FIELD, Varner Bros, Price Disposal, Howard’s Garbage Service and Superior Sanitation Service, officials said.
The second event is set in Lamont, from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 22.
The event will be held at the Lamont Branch Library at 8304 Segrue Rd., according to Public Works. It’s in partnership with FIELD and Lamont Sanitation.
Bulky waste includes household appliances like refrigerators, water heaters, mattresses, furniture, electronics, barbecue grills and other large household items.

FIELD will also accept tires without rims at the events, according to the county. Only nine tires are allowed to be transported per trip, per California law.
The event won’t accept construction waste, demolition and remodeling waste, household trash, green waste, hazardous waste and commercial waste, county officials said.
Public Works asked residents to tarp or secure their load before transporting it to the collection events. Commercial or business waste will not be accepted.
