BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — California DMV officials have ordered thousands of people to retake their written driver’s license exam after investigators uncovered possible signs of cheating.

The DMV confirmed that 11,000 people have been told to retake the test. DMV Director Steve Gordon said the cases could involve criminal activity, and some have already been referred for prosecution.

Lawmakers are pressing for answers, questioning how the suspected misconduct happened and why it was not detected sooner.
