(FOX40.COM) — A recent operation targeting human trafficking in North Sacramento led to 13 arrests — and the rescue of a missing child.
The arrests, made July 15 in Sacramento County, were part of a joint effort by state and local law enforcement through the Sacramento Regional Human Trafficking Task Force, California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Tuesday.
“The California Department of Justice will continue to dismantle sex trafficking networks by cutting off the demand for these illegal services and supporting survivors along the way,” Bonta said in a news release.
Twelve people were arrested and received citations for soliciting sex workers, and one was booked at the Sacramento County Main Jail for solicitation and resisting arrest.
The investigation is part of a regional strategy that targets sex buyers, the attorney general’s office said. The operation involved surveillance of certain locations and the deployment of undercover officers.
In addition to the arrests, the task force also recovered a juvenile trafficking victim who had been reported missing by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
“To end sex trafficking in the Sacramento region, we must confront the demand head‑on,” Sacramento County District Attorney Thien Ho said. “Every purchase of sex fuels exploitation, so holding buyers accountable is essential to protecting survivors and preventing future harm.”
