A criminal case against a Detroiter facing multiple charges for a reported armed robbery and kidnapping case out of Oakland County involving a Macomb man advanced to circuit court for possible trial following a preliminary exam Tuesday.
Demarco Bradberry, 20, is charged with armed robbery, unlawful imprisonment, carrying a concealed weapon with unlawful intent and three counts of felony firearm-pneumatic gun for an alleged May 24 incident. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, a 23-year-old Eastpointe man told deputies he had gone to Detroit to pick up a female acquaintance and, when he arrived, a man — later identified as Bradberry — entered his vehicle armed with what appeared to be a handgun and threatened to shoot him if he didn’t give him a ride to Pontiac.
The Eastpointe man reportedly complied and drove Bradberry to People’s Market on Auburn Road in Pontiac, then fled from the vehicle on foot, the sheriff’s office said.
Detectives subsequently arrested Bradberry in Pontiac, and a plastic, air-powered handgun was recovered from his waistband, the sheriff’s office said. Following the arrest, members of the sheriff’s SWAT team carried out a search of a Pontiac residence on Carriage Circle where Bradberry had reportedly been tracked to after the alleged incident.
Bradberry is held in the Oakland County Jail, denied bond. He’s scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 13 before Oakland County Circuit Judge Martha Anderson.
Armed robbery is punishable by up to life in prison. Unlawful imprisonment carries a penalty of up to 15 years in prison, and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent is punishable by up to five years in prison. Felony firearm carries a penalty of two years behind bars, consecutive to any other sentence for related charges.
