The California Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash Wednesday morning on Manning Avenue headed west toward the I-5.
The collision happened around 8 a.m. when a fast-moving Audi sedan struck the rear of a John Deere tractor.
The tractor was driving at reduced speed “along the right shoulder, near the white roadway line,” the CHP said.
“For reasons still under investigation, the driver of the Audi failed to avoid the slower-moving tractor and collided with its left rear axle.”
The Audi overturned multiple times, CHP said, then caught fire with the driver unresponsive and inside. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP.
Information on the driver’s age or identity was not released Wednesday.
The driver of the tractor was taken to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate to major injuries, CHP said.
Alcohol and drugs were not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but the collision remains under investigation.
