FRIANT, Calif. (FOX26) — The Fresno State football team held its inaugural Media Day at Table Mountain Casino Resort on Monday, July 20.

Head coach Matt Entz, both offensive & defensive coordinators, and 14 players spoke to local and national media. They previewed the 2026 season, recapped an eventful offseason, and shared a bit more about themselves.

For example, did you know DC Nick Benedetto played college football at Sioux Falls… for a former Fresno State head coach named Kalen DeBoer?

Among the highlights of Fresno State football Media Day: Defensive coordinator Nick Benedetto explained why Alabama HC Kalen DeBoer helped convince him to move to Fresno.

Yes – the architect of Fresno State’s best defense since 1992 calls an offensive mastermind like DeBoer his mentor. Go figure!

The Media Day offered Bulldog fans the opportunity to learn more about the coaches and players they will cheer on in the fall.

With 14 returning starters (most in the PAC-12) from last year’s 9-win football season, the bond in the locker room is closer than ever.

Several players pointed it out as a reason they chose to stay at Fresno State instead of seeking bigger opportunities in the transfer portal.
