Two intersections along South Watt Avenue in southeast Sacramento County will close overnight next week as construction continues on a major roadway improvement project.
South Watt Avenue at Fruitridge Road will be closed from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday and Tuesday, according to Sacramento County’s Department of Transportation.
Two South Watt Avenue intersections will be closed for five nights total for construction, according to the Sacramento County Department of Transportation. The intersection with Fruitridge Road will be shut down for two consecutive nights starting Monday.
The South Watt Avenue and Elder Creek Road intersection, about a mile north, will close during the same hours for three consecutive nights beginning Wednesday.
Drivers will be directed to detour routes using nearby streets, including Hedge Avenue, Florin Perkins Road and Florin Road.
Two South Watt Avenue intersections will be closed for five nights total for construction, according to the Sacramento County Department of Transportation. The intersection with Elder Creek Road will be in effect for three consecutive nights starting Wednesday.
The overnight closures are part of the South Watt Avenue improvement project, which will add two through lanes, 6 miles of sidewalks and bike lanes, and turnouts for future transit stops. The project also includes safety improvements at five intersections and replacement of the Morrison Creek Bridge.
According to Sacramento County, the project is intended to improve safety and expand travel options for drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians and future transit users.
The final design for the project wrapped up in 2024 and construction began last year, according to the county website.
