MADERA, Calif. — A Madera man was arrested Wednesday after deputies say he led them on a 100 mph pursuit through Fresno and nearly hit a pedestrian.
The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office identified the driver as 25-year-old Lewis Alvarado of Madera.
According to the sheriff’s office, a sheriff’s sergeant saw a blue 2003 Honda Accord traveling about 100 mph on Ashlan Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. Deputies said Alvarado nearly struck a pedestrian who was using a crosswalk before the sergeant attempted to stop the vehicle.
Investigators said Alvarado refused to pull over, leading deputies on a pursuit that ended near Van Ness and Shields avenues, where he was taken into custody.
The California Highway Patrol responded to conduct a DUI investigation. According to the sheriff’s office, CHP determined Alvarado’s blood alcohol level was over the legal limit.
Alvarado was booked into the Fresno County Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, evading a peace officer and driving on a license suspended for a prior DUI.
Jail records show he later posted bond and was released. He is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
