A woman’s death is being investigated as suspicious after being taken to the hospital, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Friday.

Family members of an unresponsive 66-year-old woman took her to a hospital around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office said. After declaring her dead and examining her body, medical staff deemed the woman’s death suspicious and likely not of natural causes.

The sheriff’s office said homicide detectives and crime scene investigators went to the hospital and the woman’s home to look further into the circumstances of her death. They are interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence.

Details were not released as to what medical staff found that made them deem the death suspicious. It is also not known which hospital she was taken to.

The woman’s identity was not released.
