BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — 12 inmates requested to be checked out at a hospital after KCSO’s transportation bus backed into a pole Friday morning in downtown Bakersfield.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said on Friday, July 24, 2026, at around 8:30 a.m., a KCSO transportation bus was involved in a single-vehicle crash on L and 20th streets in downtown Bakersfield.
KCSO said the transportation bus backed into a pole.
According to KCSO, there were no visible or obvious injuries.

There were 22 inmates on board and two employees. All initially declined medical aid, but medical aid was still called out of an abundance of caution, according to KCSO.

KCSO said ultimately 12 inmates requested to be seen at the hospital and will be taken by KCSO to the hospital. Although medical aid declined, the remaining 10 will be evaluated at Lerdo out of an abundance of caution.
