(FOX40.COM) — Four Sacramento men were indicted for distributing cocaine, fentanyl and methamphetamine, the United States Attorney for the Eastern District of California announced Friday.
According to court documents, an undercover agent was used to catch the men who were indicted. The men sold controlled substances to the undercover agent as well as a confidential source a combined eight times.
Balentin Quintero, 27; Francisco Chavez, 39; Steven Ortega, 44; and Tavarius Montgomery, 41, were all indicted on charges of distribution of controlled substances. Ortega was also charged with one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm after being found to be in possession of multiple firearms on July 14, the district attorney said.
If Chavez is convicted of distribution of methamphetamine, he will face a minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life imprisonment, as well a fine up to $10 million. If he’s convicted of distribution of fentanyl, he faces a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and a fine of up to $5 million.
Ortega faces a maximum statutory penalty of 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1 million if convicted of distribution of fentanyl, and a maximum statutory penalty of 15 years in prison and a fine up to $250,000 if convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Quintero and Montgomery will both face a mandatory minimum of five years in prison and a fine of up to $5 million if they are convicted of distribution of fentanyl, the district attorney said.
