(FOX40.COM) — The Sacramento man who shot and killed his mother at her senior living facility in 2021 has been sentenced to 159 years to life in prison, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.
In April, Ali Mustafa Hudson was convicted of second-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
On Jan. 19, 2021, Sacramento County sheriff’s deputies arrived at Foothill Farms Senior Apartments after receiving reports of domestic violence and a restraining order involving 66-year-old Ramona Hayes and her son, Hudson.
Hudson, who was described as “angry” as the second police callout and wanted the officers to leave, ended up barricading his mother in her apartment and ultimately shot her four times, killing her, the district attorney’s office said.
Hudson then opened fire on responding deputies, and was involved in a shootout until he ran out of ammunition. Although Hudson was struck by police return fire, he suffered only minor wounds as he was wearing body armor, the district attorney’s office said.
It was found during the investigation that Hudson has a prior strike conviction for attempted robbery with a firearm, and that he had previously been convicted of a felony and was prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.
