San Diegans sign with MLB clubs after draft selections

All 10 of the local players taken in this year’s MLB draft have signed professional contracts.

UC San Diego right-hander Steel Murdock, a fifth-round pick of the Minnesota Twins, signed for $536,900. Cathedral Catholic High School and Santa Clara product Max Bayles, a right-handed pitcher,  signed with the Twins for $319,600. He was a seventh-round pick by Minnesota.

University of San Diego catcher Jayden Lobliner, a ninth-round pick of the Cardinals, signed for $25,000. UCSD shortstop Anthony Potestio, an 1th-round selection of the Yankees, got $15,000 to sign. Catcher/Outfielder Gabe Camacho, who starred at La Costa Canyon High School and UCSD, got $150,000 to sign with the Cardinals after being taken in the18th round. San Diego State catcher Anthony Marnell, a 20th-round selection of the A’s, got $200,000 to sign.

Isaiah Lane, a shortstop who played at Eastlake Highi School, Oklahoma, USD and Hope International, signed with the Twins as a 13th-round pick. So did Angels 20th-round draft pick Jake Jackson, a San Diego State and Madison High School product; right-hander Diego Gutierrez, a USD product taken in the 17th round by the Orioles; and SDSU right-hander Rohan Lettow, a 12th-round pick of the Pirates.

Four other San Diegans signed as undrafted free agents: Outfielder Alex Fernandes (San Marcos High School/San Jose State) signed with the A’s; right-hander Jack Giordano (Patrick Henry High School/Oregon State) signed with the Dodgers; infielder Tyce Peterson (San Diego State) signed with the Yankees; and right-hander Devon King (Mar Vista High School/UCSD) signed with the Blue Jays.
