The Solana Beach City Council on July 15 approved a three-year, $83,200 agreement with NV5 Inc. for assessment engineering services to two of the city’s utility undergrounding districts.
The council vote was 3-0, with Mayor Lesa Heebner recused because of the proximity of her residence and Deputy Mayor Jill MacDonald absent.
The city has been working on three undergrounding districts west of Interstate 5.
Those districts are Pacific Avenue Phase II, which is from Pacific Avenue from North Helix Avenue to Solana Vista Drive, including the Fletcher Cove Community Center; Glenmont/Mar Vista/Marview, which includes Glenmont Drive, Mar Vista Drive, Rawl Place, Marview Drive, Ford Avenue, and Canyon Drive from Rawl Place to Ford Avenue; and Nardo/Granados/Rios, including Nardo Avenue from Lomas Santa Fe Drive to just south of Lirio Street, South Granados Avenue from Lomas Santa Fe to the south end of street, South Rios Avenue from Lomas Santa Fe to the south end of street, the east end of Rosa Street, Palmitas Street, Lirio Street, Corto Street, and Via de Vista.
“The three UUDs are at different stages of the formation process,” according to a council agenda report. “The Pacific Avenue Phase II and Glenmont/Mar Vista/Marview UUDs have advanced to the point where assessment engineering services are needed. The Nardo/Granados/Rios UUD remains in the design phase pending resolution of outstanding easements. Below is a status update on each district.”
There have been monthly meetings about all three districts among SDG&E engineers, Solana Beach city staff, and telecommunication utility representatives.
“You’ve been meeting monthly and getting on SDG&E to keep moving this forward, because I think most of us are just really shocked and frustrated at how long this has been taking,” Solana Beach City Councilmember Kristi Becker said. “No fault to the city at all, it’s been SDG&E just dragging their feet on these designs, is what it seems to me.”
