The deadline for candidates to file to run in local elections is Aug. 7.
Two council seats are up for election in Del Mar, including a seat vacated by former Councilmember Dwight Worden in 2024. The remaining four council members could not agree on whether to appoint a replacement or hold a special election, so the spot was left open until its next regularly scheduled election.
In Solana Beach, council seats for district 2 and 4, currently held by Kristi Becker and Jill MacDonald, respectively, are up for election.
The deadline is extended to Aug. 12 in races without incumbent candidates.
Other upcoming deadlines include Aug. 13 for holding a randomized drawing to determine the order that candidate names will appear on the ballot, Aug. 28 for all legal challenges to be resolved, and Sept. 24 is the first pre-election deadline for candidates to file campaign disclosures.
Registered voters are scheduled to receive ballots by mail the week of Oct. 5, according to the registrar. Ballots that are mailed in have to be postmarked by Nov. 3.
Ballots can be dropped off from Tuesday, Oct. 6, through Election Day. Some voting centers will be open as early as Oct. 24 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for in-person voting.
