A trans man who neighbors said lived under the watch of round-the-clock caregivers has been accused of killing his mother after she was found dead inside a Laguna Beach home, authorities and witnesses said.

Police responded to a home on the 1300 block of Dunning Drive at around 11 a.m. Monday and found Angela Caprioli, 61, of Maine, dead at the scene.

On Thursday, her son Safford Wolfson, 36, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

Police said the killing appears to be domestic and a motive remains unclear.

Neighbor Dustin Pettit told The California Post that he witnessed the pair involved in a tense argument at the home before the alleged killing.

“I saw her outside talking with him and it seemed like a pretty hostile conversation,” he said.

“She turned around and went inside and slammed the door, like she was fed up with whatever was going on. I was like, ‘What the hell is going on here?’”

Images from the scene show damaged blinds in one of the home’s windows.

Neighbors told CBS Los Angeles that they had little interaction with Wolfson.

They described him as someone who kept largely to himself and occasionally came outside to smoke cigarettes or play guitar.

Pettit added that Wolfson moved into the home about six months ago.

He said Caprioli showed up at the address about a week ago in a red pickup truck loaded with boxes and flatscreens.

A neighbor’s son said that caregivers appeared to be at the residence around the clock.

Pettit added that the house where the alleged slaying occurred is a longstanding eyesore in the neighborhood due to vegetation overgrowth and that police have frequently been called to the address over the years.

As investigators probed the alleged homicide, Wolfson’s online presence drew attention.
