1 dead, 6 others injured in Santa Clara County shooting, sheriff says
A person was killed and six others were hurt in a shooting in Santa Clara County on Saturday night, officials said.
The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened around 10:16 p.m. in unincorporated Morgan Hill. Deputies responded to Hale and Miramonte avenues after reports of people in the street while intoxicated and a person throwing bottles at cars.
When deputies arrived more than 300 people were rushing to leave the area after several gunshots were fired at a party, the sheriff’s office said. Multiple people received lifesaving aid and were transported to hospitals in the area after suffering gunshot wounds.
According to the sheriff’s office, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The party where the shooting took place was an unsanctioned event promoted on social media, the sheriff’s office said. Investigators are still working to identify the suspect or suspects.
