The body of a 53-year-old man who was reported missing in the water near Carlsbad State Beach Saturday night at around 7 p.m. was recovered Sunday morning, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.
The man was last seen 50 yards offshore near Lifeguard Tower 26, which is near Carlsbad Boulevard and Poinsettia Lane.
He was described by the U.S. Coast Guard as wearing a red shirt, gray shorts, and black swim cap.

NBC 7’s team of meteorologists say that a beach hazard statement has been extended through Wednesday for San Diego beaches. Elevated surf of 3 to 6 feet, with sets up to 7 feet, will create dangerous swimming conditions and an increased risk of rip currents, especially at south-facing beaches. Minor coastal flooding is also possible during evening high tides through early next week.
