OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – An 80-year-old man died in an off-roading crash Saturday in Oakland County.
The crash happened at the Holly Oaks ORV Park on Saturday, between 11:45 a.m. and 2:16 p.m.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, a preliminary investigation shows the man operating a Can-Am Outlander near the crest of a hill. As he descended the hill, he lost control of the ORV, causing it to overturn, throwing him from the vehicle.
He came to rest in a crevice on the hillside, while the ORV continued downhill before coming to rest further below.
The 80-year-old man from Shelby Township was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was wearing a helmet.
Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor.
Police do not know how much time elapsed between the crash and when he was discovered by someone else in the park.
