Two women were killed and one other person was seriously injured in a crash Thursday in Fresno County.
The collision occurred around 12:45 p.m. at the intersection of Auberry Road and Old Millerton Road.
California Highway Patrol said a Clovis woman was driving a Toyota sedan east on Old Millerton Road when she failed to stop at a posted stop sign before entering the intersection. The Toyota crossed into the path of a Nissan sedan driven by a Prather man traveling north on Auberry Road.
The impact sent both vehicles off the roadway, where they came to rest against an embankment.
A passenger in the Nissan — identified by the Fresno County Coroner’s Office as 88-year-old Yvonne Cheney of Auberry — was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in the Toyota died at the hospital. She was Nellie Moreno, 94, of San Joaquin.
The Toyota driver was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center with major injuries. The Toyota’s third passenger sustained moderate injuries.
The Nissan driver also suffered major injuries.
CHP said alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been factors in the crash.
The collision remains under investigation.
