San Diego International Airport’s Terminal 2 is getting a new updated baggage handling system.
Officials say the nearly 17-million dollar upgrade will replace the standard conveyer belt with high efficiency motors and equipment that will reduce energy consumption and cut down on equipment breakdowns.
They say the new system will be capable of processing as many as four-thousand bags an hour with a smart system that can read each baggage label and understand where the bags need to end up. Airport spokesperson Nicole Hall says the project is expected to be completed within 12 to 16 months.
