Peaceful mornings by the ocean are a special kind of magic, and humans aren’t the only ones who love to make the most of them. All kinds of wild animals enjoy visiting the beach, but one lucky woman caught the most priceless sight on camera when she witnessed a herd of deer playing in the ocean waves.
On July 24, Rachel Allen spotted the playful deer from the top of a beach cliff near Sea Ranch in Northern California. She shared the scene on her social media account, @rallen2932, where it racked up millions of views in just a few days.
This scene belongs in National Geographic! The stunning cliffside location is a picturesque wonder, especially with that foggy morning glow, but the hopping, happy deer are the highlight of the breathtaking video.

Deer live throughout most of California, from the mountains and forests to the coastal grasslands like in Northern California. They can even be spotted walking into suburbs from time to time! Growing up in the Bay Area, no road trip was complete without spotting a deer or two while driving through the hills.

Sea Ranch is a coastal community that prides itself on blending into the natural environment, so it must feel like a major compliment to see these happy deer jumping and relaxing by the water. If this isn’t a peak California experience, I don’t know what is!
