BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died after a crash in front of Discovery Church on White Lane back in February as 61-year-old Martin De Santiago of Bakersfield.

The Bakersfield Police Department said on Sunday, February 8, 2026, at around 11:40 a.m., officers were called to the 7000 block of White Lane regarding a crash.

When officers arrived, they found one of the drivers suffering from severe injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. On Wednesday, February 11th, the Kern County Coroner’s Office contacted the Bakersfield Police Department Traffic Division to advise that the driver had died from his injuries.

The coroner’s report identified the man as Santiago.

Police said the investigation found that the injured driver had been traveling westbound and made an unprotected left turn in front of eastbound traffic when the crash happened.

Discovery Church made a social media post in February that has since been deleted, offering condolences, saying that Santiago was one of their church members.
