An impressive contingent of Oakland County players again helps comprise this year’s Michigan High School Lacrosse Coaches Association All-State teams.
That’s of little surprise considering both of this year’s state champions, Detroit Catholic Central (Division 1) and Detroit Country Day (D2), are local, and that Brother Rice was among the semifinalists.
Additionally, Lake Orion reached the quarterfinals, while Cranbrook-Kingswood, Oxford, Walled Lake United, Bloomfield Hills, Stoney Creek and Birmingham United all competed for regional championships.
Catholic Central and Country day each tied for a county-high eight selections, while Clarkston and Brother Rice followed with six a piece.
There were plenty of USA Lacrosse All-Americans from among those four programs. Ryan Dye, Travis Wasen, Nick Edwards and Luke Kramer were All-Americans from the Shamrocks, while Mason Gal, Rhys Kenney, Keaton Yearego and Bonner Upshaw got the nods from the Yellowjackets. Joe Lee, Weston Curkrowski and Brady Salach were the trio recognized from the Warriors.
Yearego, who surpassed 60 goals and assists each this season, was this year’s Mr. Lacrosse Award winner, while Brother Rice’s Brady Salach picked up the Bob Scott Award, which goes to seniors who go above and beyond in service to their team, school and community.
