OAKLAND TOWNSHIP — A man died and two women were injured following a head-on car crash in Oakland Township.

The incident occurred at approximately 5:48 a.m. July 24 on Rochester Road, near Buell Road, in Oakland Township, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said a 65-year-old Rochester Hills man was operating a 2022 Ford Escape northbound on Rochester Road when, for reasons that remain under investigation, the vehicle crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2025 Subaru Outback head-on.

The driver of the Subaru, a 49-year-old woman from Imlay City, and the passenger, a 56-year-old woman from Almont, were transported to Henry Ford Rochester Hospital, where they remained in critical condition at press time. It’s unclear if the women in the Subaru were wearing seatbelts, deputies said.

The driver of the Ford Escape, who was reportedly wearing a seat belt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene. His identity was not released at press time.

While the official cause of death remains pending, investigators do not believe the crash was the result of a medical emergency. The crash remains under investigation.
