Whiskey Red’s, Marina Del Rey

If you’re looking for a seaside restaurant with a solid American menu, Whiskey Red’s is your patio-to-go. Featuring a menu of classic East Coast seafood staples like crab cakes, lobster rolls and oysters alongside some California steakhouse-inspired dishes, there is a little something for everyone to enjoy while watching boats glide along the marina. Whiskey Red’s has an all-day and brunch menu as well as a solid cocktail and happy hour list. In fact, their $7 speciality cocktails may be the best deal along the water.

Their dining is primarily al fresco, so prepare for an ocean breeze. Whiskey Red’s offers a VIP program and is available for private events.

Fuego, Long Beach

700 Queensway Dr, Long Beach, CA 90802, $$

If you’re in the mood for Latin cuisine, Fuego has your back. Located in the Hotel Maya, enjoy fresh ceviche and mezcal drinks while overlooking the Long Beach harbor. The restaurant also doubles as a cafe during the daytime, and includes a signature breakfast menu of California classics. The lounge hosts events and waterfront celebrations that are sure to set the mood for a hot summer night out.

Their wine, beer and cocktail list is thoughtful, and includes a couple of non-alcoholic options for those who don’t wish to drink.

Gladstone’s, Pacific Palisades

Gladstone’s is definitely not a hidden gem, but it is worth all the recognition it deserves. A Palisades institution since 1972, Gladstone’s offers classic coastal steakhouse options alongside a modest cocktail, beer and wine selection. While the restaurant has two locations (the other in Long Beach, Calif.), the Palisades location takes the prize as the best view out of the two.

In the wake of the Pacific Palisades fires, Gladstone’s gave back to the community throughout their own partial closure sustained from the tragedy. When fully reopened, the restaurant offered discounts to first-responders, Malibu and Palisades residents, and commemorated the firefighters by unveiling a plaque featuring a L.A. firefighter jacket.

Neptune’s Net, Malibu

42505 CA-1, Malibu, CA 90265, $

Adored by bikers, car-guys and locals alike, Neptune’s Net is a no-frills greasy spoon with good drinks and a solid view. Located along the Pacific Coast Highway, this iconic spot featured in countless movies and television shows, most notably The Fast and the Furious. The seafood shack mostly offers a delightfully fried menu alongside some seared options, sandwiches and tacos. While you may not get a fine-dining experience, you do get to watch Harley-Davidson bikes ride along the California coast.

The seafood shack is open 365 days a year, including holidays. It is a short drive, one minute in fact, away from the beautiful Bass Rock Beach. Parking is free but limited, and is known to fill up rather quickly.

Belles Beach House, Venice

24 Windward Ave, Venice, CA 90291, $$

If you’d rather have something besides club sandwiches and fried fish, Belles Beach House may be worth the trip to Venice Beach. This Japanese-American fusion restaurant has some of the best interiors on the list, and an even better cocktail list. Surrounded by bamboo shades and dim lighting, you can eat sushi and people-watch alongside the Venice streets. While the view of the water is across the road, you’re still sure to get a dinner with a view.

Their brunch menu is available until 4 p.m., and their shared plates are a perfect match for a natural wine or yuzu cocktail. They have an open patio as well as nontraditional sofa or table dining.
