Candidates considering running for a seat on the Ramona Unified School District’s board have until 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7 to apply.

Information about how to apply as a candidate in the Nov. 3 Gubernatorial General Election is listed on the San Diego County Registrar of Voters’ sdvote.com website. Click on “Candidates and Measures” for information on becoming a candidate, including filing guidelines and key requirements. A link to a Candidate Filing Guide is on the website.

Several candidates have already announced their intention to run for a seat in either Trustee Area 1 currently occupied by Trustee Maya Phillips, Trustee Area 2 occupied by Trustee Dan Summers or Trustee Area 5 occupied by Rodger Dohm.

As of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 28 only incumbent Phillips was listed as a candidate in Trustee Area 1. The three candidates listed in Trustee Area 2 are William Adelson, a California licensed architect; Theresa Ketchem-Grace, listed as a retired Ramona Unified administrator who was the district’s former superintendent; and incumbent Dan Summers, a retired firefighter-paramedic. No candidates were listed in Trustee Area 5 as of that time.

Adelson had qualified for the ballot and the others were in process as of July 28.

A “Notice to Declare Candidacy for Governing Board Member Election” from the San Diego County Office of Education is posted on the Ramona Unified website, ramonausd.net, under “Public Notices.” The document is also displayed in front of the school district office at 720 Ninth St. and on the Ramona Unified Facebook page.

Candidates must be registered voters living within the boundaries of a trustee area.

Potential candidates can locate area in which they reside on the Ramonausd.net website. Click on “Departments,” then “School Board,” then scroll down to the “Trustee Areas” box. From there, select either the trustee area map link or the virtual map link. The virtual map provides space to enter an address or location to identify a specific location within one of the trustee areas.
