BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A woman who pleaded no contest to driving drunk in a crash that killed an occupant of a car parked on the shoulder of Highway 178 was sentenced to seven years in prison, according to court records.

Hisa Ann Castillo, 28, was sentenced Tuesday after pleading no contest earlier this year to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The crash happened around 1 a.m. on June 13, 2025, on Highway 178 near the Beale Avenue exit.

A Saturn Ion was parked along the right shoulder of eastbound 178 as Castillo approached at high speed in a Hyundai Santa Fe, according to California Highway Patrol. The SUV drifted onto the right shoulder and slammed into the car.

Alejandro Marix Manriquez-Chavez, 23, died at the scene, officers said. The Saturn’s other occupant was injured but survived.
