BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the man who died after being struck by several vehicles on Highway 99 as 43-year-old Shane Daniel Voris of Bakersfield.

The California Highway Patrol said on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at around 1:48 a.m., officers were called to southbound Highway 99, south of White Lane, for reports of a traffic crash involving multiple vehicles and a pedestrian.
According to CHP, a preliminary investigation found that Voris went into southbound Highway 99 from the shoulder, directly in the path of an unknown vehicle.
The unknown vehicle struck Voris, causing severe injuries. CHP said he was subsequently struck by multiple other vehicles, sustaining additional injuries.
Voris was pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple drivers remained on scene and were cooperative with investigators.
CHP said there are potentially other vehicles involved that drove away from the scene.
