Ethan Salas hit the ground running at Triple-A El Paso.

The Padres’ top prospect doubled in his first at-bat with the Chihuahuas, tripled and reached base four times while serving as the DH in El Paso’s 9-7 loss on Wednesday against visiting Albuquerque.

Salas also singled, walked, drove in two runs and scored.

The Padres’ top prospect, the 20-year-old catcher had seven homers and a .286/.361/.417 batting line in 72 games to start the year at Double-A San Antonio.

He also represented the Padres in the All-Star Futures Game earlier this month ahead of Wednesday’s promotion.

Catcher Blake Hunt (1.011 OPS) and second baseman Marcus Castañon (.776 OPS) both drove in two runs on two hits.

Right-hander Jhony Brito (2.10 ERA) struck out four and allowed two runs on five hits in four innings in the start.

Right-hander Alek Jacob (5-3, 4.65 ERA) allowed four runs—three earned—in two innings in the loss.

El Paso is 44-59.

Amarillo 7, Missions 6: RF Braedon Karpathios (.700 OPS) drove in two runs on his 10th homer and 1B Albert Fabian (.698 OPS) drove in two runs on his eighth homer. RHP Jose Leclerc (0-1, 18.00 ERA) allowed two runs on three hits in an inning to take the loss in his Missions debut.

 

HIGH SINGLE-A FORT WAYNE (43-54)

TinCaps 5, Great Lakes 4 (10): LHP Luis Gutierrez (shoulder) struck out three and walked two over two scoreless innings in a rehab game. He did not allow a hit. RHP Carlos Medina (3.18 ERA) struck out three over three scoreless innings, while RHP Winyer Chourio (2-3, 8.20 ERA) struck out eight while allowing four runs in five innings in the win. C Lamar King Jr. (.621 OPS) and LF Kasen Wells (.700 OPS) both drove in two runs on two hits. CF Ryan Wideman (.654 OPS) went 1-for-6 and swiped his 15th base.

 

LOW SINGLE-A LAKE ELSINORE (52-46)

Storm 4, Stockton 0: LHP Adler Cecil (0.00 ERA) struck out five and allowed a hit and three walks in 4⅓ innings in his full-season debut. RHP Cameron Nohos (1-1, 6.75 ERA) struck out six over four shutout innings in relief. RF George Bilecki (.733 OPS) went 3-for-4 and hit his sixth homer. 2B Bradley Frye (.753 OPS) went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
