There were three issues facing Santa Clara County voters for the Nov. 4, 2025, election: one at the state level and two at the county level.

Proposition 50 – Redraws Congressional District Maps Through 2030

Touted as “The Election Rigging Response Act,” Proposition 50 allowed the State of California to temporarily redraw congressional district maps to “counter Donald Trump’s scheme to rig next year’s congressional election.” (Source: Secretary of State Voter Guide) After 2030, it would direct independent Citizens Redistricting Commission to resume enacting congressional district maps in 2031 based on the next census.

According to the Secretary of State’s website, as of 4:20 a.m. on Nov. 5, 2025, 63.8% of Californians (5,154,529) voted in favor of Proposition 50, and 36.2% (2,927,923) voted against Proposition 50.

Because the proposition needed a majority 50.1% to pass, it has passed.

Measure A – Sales Tax to Fund Healthcare Services

At the county level, a 5/8ths-cent (0.625%) general sales tax, put in place to help counter federal cuts, appears to have passed. Measure A needed a simple majority to pass. As of 10:50 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2025, the Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters reported that 56.73% of voters (200,430) had voted in favor of the sales tax while 43.27% (152,850) had voted against it.

The sales tax will go into effect on April 1, 2026, and will expire in April 2031. It’s expected to raise approximately $330 million per year for the county, with money going to fund local trauma, emergency room, mental health and public safety services.

Santa Clara County Assessor’s Race

There was one political race also on the ballot, the race to determine who would replace Larry Stone as the Santa Clara County Assessor. Since none of the four candidates received a majority of the vote (50%), the top two candidates will go to a runoff in December.

Right now, the two leading candidates are Neysa Fligor, who currently works as an assistant assessor in the assessor’s office and Los Altos mayor and council member, and Rishi Kumar, a former Saratoga council member.

As of 10:50 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2025, Fligor received 38.25% of the vote (118,661) and Kumar received 24.34% of the vote (75,508). There were two other candidates. Yan Zhao received 20.63% of the vote (63,995) and Bryan Do received 16.62% of the vote (51,569).

The Santa Clara County Registrar of Voters plans to update the vote tally at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2025, but with how the results currently stand and how many ballots have already been counted, there’s not expected to be too much change in the results.
