The heat continues Thursday, with an extreme heat warning in effect for our deserts and mountains as high surf continues for our coastal areas, the National Weather Service said.
An extreme heat warning is in effect until 8 p.m. Sunday for our deserts and mountains. Starting Friday, an extreme heat warning for our valleys and a heat advisory for our coastal areas will be in effect through Sunday.
“Make sure to take all the proper heat precautions: stay cool and hydrated, make sure pets have fresh water and shade, avoid peak heat in the afternoon,” Chief Meteorologist Sheena Parveen said.

Expect temperatures to increase through this weekend, yielding dangerous heat, particularly in the Inland Empire and deserts. 🌡️If you’re out and about, make sure to seek shade, stay hydrated, and take plenty of breaks in a cool indoor environment. pic.twitter.com/ItZeQSjveG

Then a high surf advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. Saturday, where we can expect large waves of 5 to 8 feet with sets up to 9 feet, the National Weather Service said.
South facing beaches can see those elevated wave heights like Mission Beach and south Mission Beach, even Windansea Beach.
A coastal flood advisory is in effect until Saturday at 3 p.m. where we can expect flooding of low-lying beach parking lots, boardwalks and roads. We can also expect some onshore winds and tides that could generate flooring, Meteorologist Brooke Martell said.
“We have those strong rip currents. If you are going to the beach, please check in with the lifeguard to see if its safe to go into the water,” Martell said.
After the heat warning and advisory expire, we will start to trend a little cooler at the start of next week, but it will still be warm, Martell said.
Heat advisories are issued when temperatures spike to potentially dangerous levels. San Diego County officials urge people to avoid the heat when possible and use the following tips to stay safe:
Drink plenty of fluids
Stay out of the sun
Wear light, loose-fitting clothing
Avoid using the oven to cook
Limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening
Take refuge in air- conditioned spaces if possible
Check in on potentially at-risk friends, relatives and neighbors
