A fire was reported near warehouses in Vernon, just a few miles south of Boyle Heights where residents are still grappling with the aftermath of the cold storage fire.
Fire officials said the fire was first reported inside a building on Hampton Boulevard in a commercial neighborhood crowded with warehouses at around 3:14 p.m.
As fire crews battled the three-alarm fire, thick and dark smoke from the blaze was visible from several miles away. Three-alarm fires are typically significant blazes, involving large buildings, multiple floors or a hazardous materials situation.
This is a developing news story.
