NorCal forecast: Heat wave begins Friday. Here’s how long it’ll last.
Valley temperatures will be around 100 degrees Friday. Heat will intensify through Monday.

A heat wave will begin for Northern California on Friday and last into the early part of next week.
Friday through Tuesday are KCRA 3 weather Impact Days for the heat and the need to plan around it. Valley highs will be above 100 degrees each of those days. Highs in the Foothills will be in the upper 90s to around 100. The heat will be most intense Sunday and Monday for the Valley.
There will be a weak onshore breeze that will help to cool the delta at night, but places farther inland and on the west slope will stay warm overnight.
Temperatures are expected to start dropping next Wednesday as the marine layer recovers and the delta breeze regains some strength.
Heat wave Impact Days
A stretch of hot days will begin on Friday. Valley highs will range between 100 and 106 degrees through next Tuesday. Highs in the Foothills will be in the upper 90s to around 100 degrees.
These temperatures will likely not break records, but this is still the kind of heat people should plan around to avoid the worst of it.
High temperature forecast for Sacramento
Temperatures will slowly creep up this weekend into next week.
Friday will have a good amount of time in the morning with comfortable temperatures but by Monday, that window of comfort will get smaller with temperatures starting warmer in the morning.
Low temperature forecasts
Morning temperatures will gradually get a little warmer as the heat wave intensifies, but places in the delta including Sacramento will cool down pretty well for the early hours.
The Foothills will stay warmer overnight. This does mean that temperatures will be close to 90 degrees by 10 am this weekend and early next week.
A look at July
For the most part, July was pretty easy-going for Northern California. There were only 3 days in the triple digits for Sacramento. About two weeks worth of days had high temperatures at or below normal.
August is coming in hotter.
Foothills & Sierra 7 day forecast
Heat will be intense in the Foothills for a while. While the Valley will see a subtle drop in temperatures later next week, that change won’t come to the Foothills. Mornings will stay very warm. Afternoons will be hot.
Sierra temperatures will run hot in the afternoon but the early morning hours will be comfortable.
Valley 7 day forecast
Friday through Tuesday are KCRA 3 weather Impact Days because of the forecast for intense afternoon heat. Temperatures will slowly come down during the middle and end of next week as the delta breeze returns.
