SAN DIEGO – An F-35 aircraft caught fire Friday morning at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar in San Diego, prompting an emergency response, according to FOX 5/KUSI.
A FOX 5/KUSI news crew spotted heavy black smoke rising from the base shortly after 10 a.m. while driving near MCAS Miramar.

Marine Corps officials told the station that emergency personnel responded to an F-35 “aircraft mishap” on the flight line. The aircraft was assigned to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Aircraft Group 11.
