Missing person found

An elderly woman reported missing Friday by Sacramento police was found dead later that evening in Washoe County, Nevada, authorities said.

Nancy Vickers, who was 88 years old and in the early stages of dementia, had been seen leaving her Curtis Park residence around 7:30 a.m. Friday in her Honda Accord, the Sacramento Police Department said in social media posts. Police said a license place reader in Douglas County, Nevada, detected her vehicle around 11 a.m.

Vickers was found dead in Washoe County, Nevada, Police Department spokesperson Officer Anthony Gamble said in an update late Friday. Local authorities in Washoe County said the death was not deemed suspicious, according to Gamble.

“We extend our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones,” Sacramento police wrote in another social media post just before 11 p.m. “We also want to thank our community for their concern and support in sharing information to help in this case.”

Washoe County, which includes Reno, is just north of Douglas County. The counties border California near Lake Tahoe.
