Eight months in, the new Mia’s restaurant in Solana Beach is finding its culinary identity, recently rolling out the second phase of its menu with 14 new lunch and dinner items. The Baja-Mediterranean fusion restaurant opened last year on Highway 101 from the team behind Bluewater Grill, in the space previously occupied by Alce 101.

“Mia’s was always intended to be a work-in-progress, an ongoing opportunity to create bright, colorful dishes that blend locally sourced seafood and succulent meats with the flavors of Baja California and the Mediterranean coast,” said Executive Chef Michael Padilla in a news release. “These latest menu items allow us to take our coastal fusion concept further while adapting it to the evolving tastes and preferences of our customers.”

“We’ve been paying careful attention to what Solana Beach foodies want and think the time is right to unleash the Mia’s menu we always intended,” he added.

The expanded menu features a mix of Mediterranean and Baja-style plates like the Squash Blossom Quesadilla with Chihuahua and Oaxaca cheeses, roasted poblano peppers and fire roasted tomatillo salsa, a flatbread made with artichoke hearts and cucumber, a tri-color quinoa and a colorful roasted beet salad with marinated feta, oranges, pepitas and a Dijon Champagne vinaigrette.

The new menu is rounded out by a loaded ancient grains salad and poke bowl, lox flat bread, ahi club, and a California chicken club sandwich on buttered toasted multigrain wheat bread.

Mia’s newest standout protein dish is the Heritage Pork Chop, a double-cut chop from Montana’s Len-roc Farms, grilled in apple juice brine and accompanied by calabaza squash puree, Spanish rice pilaf and mango chutney.
