Detectives have arrested a 63-year-old man on suspicion of murder for allegedly shooting and killing a 28-year-old man last month in the Valencia Park neighborhood, a San Diego police homicide lieutenant said Monday.
San Diego resident Randy Killens is suspected of fatally shooting Leano Edrozo, who was also known as Leano Azzazi, on the afternoon of July 15 at a home on South 58th Street near Duluth Avenue, acting homicide Lt. Victor Rodriguez said in a statement.
Officers had responded to the home following several 911 calls reporting a shooting and found Edrozo suffering from a gunshot wound, Rodriguez said. Medics took him to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Police arrested Killens on Thursday, about two weeks after the slaying, Rodriguez said. Online jail records showed Killens was set to be arraigned Monday in San Diego Superior Court on a murder charge.
Police have released few details about what led up to the slaying, except to say the two men knew each other and it was an isolated incident. Rodriguez said there did not appear to be a physical altercation between the two men before the shooting. He declined to comment on how detectives identified Killens as the suspect, though public records showed Killens was linked to the home where the shooting occurred.
According to an online obituary, Edrozo had lived in San Diego most of his life and was the father of a young son.
