KC DowneyBOSTON —

The Boston Red Sox have agreed to trade infielder Marcelo Mayer to the San Francisco Giants for reliever Erik Miller.

Mayer, 23, is currently on the injured list. He’s hitting .220 with three home runs and 22 RBI in 70 games this season.

Mayer was the team’s former top prospect, but he has struggled at the plate the past two years in the majors, batting .223 with seven homers in 114 career games.
