Judge sentences 49er Travel Plaza shooter in Sacramento County murder case
SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
A man convicted of shooting and killing a woman at 49er Travel Plaza in 2022 was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison, the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office said.
This is a life sentence but means the defendant, Quentin Respers, can seek parole after 40 years.
Respers was convicted of second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm in May after Abrina Wheeler was shot at the 49er Travel Plaza on El Centro Road, KCRA 3 previously reported.
The shooting took place at 3:45 a.m. on June 24, 2022. Respers fired two shots at Wheeler after she spilled Gatorade on him, prosecutors said.
Respers then “casually” walked out of the store, according to the district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors previously said the two had met up to discuss their relationship.
Wheeler died at the hospital several hours after being shot.
Respers was previously convicted in 2017 for firearm-related charges.
