FRESNO, Calif. (KMPH) — A man was hospitalized after being chopped multiple times with a hatchet in California, according to authorities.

The Fresno Police Department said officers were called to a scene on Monday around 7:45 a.m. for reports of a stabbing.

When officers arrived, they found a man who had lacerations to his right rib cage and his back.

Police said initial investigation shows the man and a friend were riding bikes in the area when another man came out of a neighborhood and an argument began.

The suspect pulled out a small hatchet and cut the man multiple times, police said.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, said police.

There is no word on the suspect yet.
