(KRON) — A suspected DUI driver was arrested in connection to a deadly hit-and-run collision in San Jose over the weekend, police said.

According to police, the driver was behind the wheel of a black 2017 Chevy pickup truck when he struck a pedestrian on Bernal Road near Via Del Oro just after 2 a.m. on August 2. The pedestrian died, while the pickup truck driver fled the scene, investigators said.

“Through extensive follow up, SJPD Patrol Officers located the suspect vehicle in the city of San Jose. The suspect driver was contacted and was determined to be under the influence of alcohol,” the San Jose Police Department wrote.

He was arrested and booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail on suspicion of driving under the influence, vehicular manslaughter, and felony hit-and-run.

The incident marks the city’s 26th fatal collision of 2026. SJPD did not release the names of the driver and victim on Monday.
