Firefighters from the Bakersfield Fire Department rescued a person and several cats from a burning single-story home in the 2800 block of Hines Way on Sunday night.
BFD said firefighters who arrived at about 10:10 p.m. found light smoke coming from a corner of the home and fire inside.
The person — whose name was not released — was rescued, given medical care by fire personnel and taken to a hospital by Hall Ambulance.
Other firefighters extinguished a bedroom fire and during a search, found the undisclosed number of cats and took them to fresh air.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to a BFD news release.
BFD said a properly installed and working smoke and fire alarm system provided early notification to the department, allowing firefighters to respond quickly and find the person.
